The number 18 represents "chai" which means life - and the number is special! The summer of 2009 will mark the 18th Maccabiah Games, which will be held in Tel Aviv and throughout Israel from July 13th to 23rd.

Once every four years Israel hosts the Maccabiah Games in Israel. This year, it is anticipated that over 10,000 Jewish athletes will be participating from all over the globe, making the Maccabiah Games the second largest sporting event in the world! Best part about it -- all of our AMIIE summer groups will be there to witness the opening ceremony and a few other events as well!

Imagine yourself in an outdoor stadium together with thousands of Jewish people watching some of Israel's finest papratroopers jump and land in the middle of a stadium as the torch is lit, the Israeli flag is raised, and everyone joins together to sing Hatikva!!! "Am Yisrael Chai!" You will experience all this surrounded by your closest friends. Be prepared for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, this is one you really DON'T want to miss!
